For some individuals and families, a quieter setting consisting of single-family homes in the suburbs is preferred over the hustle and bustle of the city. The northern suburbs of Minneapolis provide a great opportunity for those who are looking for a home with a garage and a backyard where they can grow vegetables in a garden or host friends and family for a campfire. Here is an overview of some of the northern Minneapolis suburbs:

New Brighton: Single-family homes in small neighborhoods are what you’ll find in New Brighton. Many residents in this community commute into the city or to other suburbs for work, and have easy access to transportation.

Shoreview: Small lakes are scattered within Shoreview’s boundaries, giving this suburb an appropriate name. The community is made up mostly of single-family homes and family-run businesses, with a few larger industries tucked into the woodsy geography.

St. Anthony Village: Not to be confused with a neighborhood of Minneapolis that was annexed into the city in 1872, St. Anthony Village is nicknamed “A Walkable Community,” thanks to the scattering of parks within the city.

Roseville: Shopping opportunities and a mixture of chain and family-run restaurants are what draw people to living in Roseville. This suburb borders both Minneapolis and St. Paul, giving residents easy access to employment and entertainment opportunities in both cities.

Little Canada: This city was started by a French Canadian settler in 1844. To this day it still celebrates its Canadian heritage with the city flag bearing a red maple leaf. Little Canada has managed to successfully maintain a small-town image, even though it’s within the inner ring of Twin Cities suburbs.

Arden Hills: CNN Money Magazine rated Arden Hills as number 14 in its 2011 list of the top 100 best small towns. This is because the community has an excellent trail system and is located within close proximity to Minneapolis for employment opportunities.
